Adams Creative has built and designed a new e-commerce website for Bell House Fabrics, one of Kent’s leading suppliers of fabrics and fine furnishings.
The site, www.bellhousefabrics.co.uk, enables customers to select and buy online from over 500 products, including fabrics, cushions, curtain poles and tie-backs. Developed to be both visually appealing and easy to use, visitors can find their desired fabric through a simple search mechanism which incorporates a combination of product type, brand and colour preference.
Once the selection has been made, individual products can then be highlighted and enlarged, showing the design in more detail prior to purchase. A swatch and sample ordering facility has also been included to allow customers to confirm their choice before completing the purchasing process.
In addition, a larger view of the chosen product can be displayed to show the design in more detail.
“One of the key aspects of this web design project was that all product images had to be individually cropped, resized and optimised for the website,” explained Neville Palmer of Adams Creative. “We had to make sure that every single photograph represented the product being sold, while simultaneously ensuring that they were easy to find using the minimum of effort through the search criteria.”
Equally important was the website’s payment system. This is the first e-commerce venture for Bell House Fabrics and represents a major development on their behalf. Ensuring that an easy to operate payment system was in place was vital. “We built PayPal’s secure payment system into the website as it integrates seamlessly into the Bell House online shopping basket,” said Neville Palmer.
Paul Jenner, manager of Bell House Fabrics is delighted with the result: “Our customers come to us from all over the UK and Europe. The move to online retail will make our extensive fabric range available to an even wider market.”
